No Greater Love

Today I was humbled to be the featured artist by the Souls Shot Portrait Project, as today is also Good Friday the pivot point of the entire Christian calendar. Tradition marks this day as day of sorrow and mourning, a dark day when an innocent man was put to death through no fault of his own leaving his mother, siblings and friends with hearts broken and everything they believed in question.

The world we live in is all to acquainted with this sadness and grief. Our families, our cities, our streets are overflowing with it and yet there is hope as more people stand up, take notice and then take a chance to do the right thing.

Seeing the faces of my portraits pop up on social media on a day of set apart to quietly reflect, on just these things, gave me pause. Just hours before Jesus' was arrested he was celebrating Passover and reminded those at the table of the importance of love.

The Gospel of John Chapter 15:12-14 records the words as "12 This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that they lay down their lives for their friends.14 You are my friends if you do what I command you." Those with him did not know he would hang the next day because THAT VERY LOVE dares to make everything wrong, right again by it's sacrifice and testimony.

Both of my portrait stories are of Peace Officers who suffered gunshot wounds to prevent you and I from the same fate. The fact that there are men and women willing to put themselves in harm's way, no matter any religious convictions, in this day and age, is proof the concept of no greater love, can not die. It is what rose again, is alive today and promises to change everything.

As for me, I go forward this weekend ready to love, my heart filled with assurance the story is not over and great faith.

Thanks and Giving

There are still good things in the world and I hope I never stop seeing them! Being positive and staying on schedule daily during this pandemic has been difficult with so much to rearrange and dail
